| Villa
Union was home to the first European settlement in the area.
Formerly known as "Precidio de Mazatlán," the colony was established
in 1576. Although the Spaniards built a military post here,
it is long gone. But what does remain is a town of hard-working
people. Probably best known by Mazatlán tourists as the "mud
brick stop" on the way to |
|
Concordia,
passerbys often stop to watch locals dig and mix clay and
mold it by hand and wooden frame to make bricks that are then
left to dry in the sun. Also notable is Villa Union's central
market and church three blocks off the highway. Villa Union
is located twenty minutes from Mazatlán on Highway 15, just
before turning off on Highway 40 to go to Concordia and Copala.
