From the Publisher's Desk
As the only dedicated English language newspaper in Mazatlán, the Pacific Pearl is often asked by readers about upcoming events in our city. We are sometimes unable to answer your questions as many promoters do not announce international events until one or two weeks before they are to take place, even if they are planned well in advance. As a monthly magazine, we are either informed of events past deadline date, or not at all. In our continuing effort to provide up-to-date information to our readers, the Pacific Pearl delivered the following letter to event and convention promoters. (In Spanish)

Dear Sir,
Please permit me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Veselik. I am the publisher of the English language monthly news magazine in Mazatlán called “Mazatlán´s Pacific Pearl.” We have published our magazine in Mazatlán since 1992.

Our readers are English speaking visitors and residents of Mazatlán who are interested in international events taking place in our city. Unfortunately, many of them are unable to read Spanish and therefore are unaware of announcements of events which appear in your paper & advertisements.
We believe in communities working together to the benefit of Mazatlán. With that in mind, we would like to publish announcements of international events in English for our readers. For instance, our readers are interested in the Marathon, the Triathalon, Fishing Tournaments, Golf & Tennis Tournaments, the Yoreme Festival, the International Film Festival and Arts Festivals. We found that publishing events taking place in Mazatlán months in advance allows our readers to plan their holiday to include, or participate in, the events. This is good for Mazatlán, and good for the sponsors of the events.
We would be grateful if you could forward advance notices of international events to us for publication in our monthly magazine. We will also post the events on our Pacific Pearl Magazine Website, which receives over 3.3 million hits a year. Together we can work for the betterment of Mazatlán and our tourism industry. I welcome your comments on this suggestion and look forward to hearing from you.

  Yours sincerely,
  Michael J. Veselik
