A choral fest that’s sure to be a treat for the ears
By Jackie Peterson
Music both classical and sacred will resound in Mazatlán with two concerts to be presented here March 12 and 13.
These cultural programs will benefit a national nonprofit group called “Adopt a Work of Art,” which in this area has helped restore the retablo (back altar) in the Church of St. Joseph in Copala and is looking to offer some assistance to preservation of other such historic gems in Southern Sinaloa. The program on Thursday, March 12, is called “The Great Choral Compositions” and will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the Angela Peralta Theater. Participating will be the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts under the baton of Enrique Patron de Rueda, along with soloists and the chorus from the Opera Choral Workshop. The musical offerings will include the Bacchanal from “Samson and Delila,” the Waltz from the opera “Faust,” the Triumphal March from “Aida” plus works by Massenet and Verdi,
ending with rousing selections from various Spanish zarzuelas (light operas).
The gala choral fest, being produced by Vivace Productions and local “Adopt a Work of Art” chair person Justina De Cima, continues on Friday, March 13, with a program called In Excelsis. It takes place at 8:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Here the participants will be around 200 voices of the various choral groups throughout Sinaloa, accompanied by the String Orchestra from the Municipal Arts Center under the direction of Sergio Rodriguez Chavez. Tickets for both events are being sold at the offices of Vivace Productions, 2513 Belisario Dominguez, tels: 985-4242 or 4245. Prices for the cathedral concert are 400 pesos. For the concert in the Angela Peralta Theater, prices range from 650 to 250 pesos. Proceeds go toward the projects of the Adopt a Work of Art organization.
