BOOKS AND CRAFTS RTAKE THE SPOTLIGHT IN MARCH
By Jackie Peterson

There’s a book fair going on this month in the Plazuela Machado and while it’s aimed at a Spanish-speaking (and reading) audience, some of the stalls also sell gift and craft items. It’s worth a browse, and there’s great people-watching from one or the other of the sidewalk cafes around the square. Feliart, the Spanish acronym that stands for the Feria del Libro y Artes, began on Feb. 29 and continues in the Machado until March 9. This year it is paying homage to the great Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes and to Antonio Haas, the Sinaloa writer-painter who died in the fall of 2007. As for other events in the month of March, we could wrest only unconfirmed possibilities from the press office of CULTURA — the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art. So please keep in mind that everything in this month’s calendar was yet to be confirmed at the Pacific Pearl’s

deadline. To be absolutely sure that any of this is happening on the dates and (where available) times listed below, please check the website: www.culturamazatlan.com for confirmation. Remember that there is no admission charge for any of the events that do not take place inside the theater proper.
