PERFORMING ARTS SLOW DOWN DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH
By Jackie Peterson

Now that the hullabaloo of carnaval is over, the forces responsible for organizing and promoting performing arts events seem to be taking a bit of a breather. Even so, a few events have been penciled in on the entertainment calendar. First and foremost comes a megashow by Creedence Clearwater, the group with the bouncy bayou musical style. Creedence with its blues-country twang was at its zenith during the golden age of rock, and many a fan of that era puts the group among the best of the times. The Mazatlán concert takes place at 8:00 p.m. March 8 at the Teodoro Mariscal Baseball Stadium, and tickets are priced at 500, 300 and 200 pesos. Tickets are available at Farmacia Moderna locations around town and at the Coordinacíon de Turismo office, on Calle Carnaval one block north of the Plazuela Machado in the Historic Center. By the way, the Historic Center Project will benefit in part from sale of tickets to this event. Then on March 18, Lucero Martinez will produce yet another of her spectacular flamenco shows featuring not only her own

students but also guest performers and musicians to bring the exotic gypsy rhythms to life. The curtains at the Angela Peralta Theater rise at 8:00 p.m. on that date, and tickets are available at the theater box office in the 100-120 peso range. Do classical ballet and modern dance ever meet? They have, and their convergence was such a great success, the two dance disciplines, represented by advanced students in each at the Municipal Center for the Arts, will meet once again at 8:00 p.m. March 25 at the Angela Peralta Theater. Tickets for this highly acclaimed convergence of dance styles cost 60 pesos general admission and will help both groups with their summer travel expenses to continue their studies. Sprinkled among these events are a series of Spanish-language plays that will be appearing on the stage of the Angela Peralta Theater during the month.
