Every year about this
time we publish a warning about jellyfish in the waters surrounding Mazatlán
beginning June through September. Their sting, or “burn,” can be very
painful and is especially dangerous for small children and anyone allergic
to bee stings. Watch for white flags on the beaches which indicate jellyfish
in the water. If walking the
|
|
beach during an infestation,
avoid stepping on the little bluebottle jellyfish which wash ashore. Our
advice is to wear sandals on the beach and enjoy the pool at your hotel
until the white flags come down. If you are stung, rinse the area with
beer or any kind of alcohol. Vinegar, lime juice or meat tenderizer will
also help take out the sting.
