TEN WAYS TO CELEBRATE DIA DE AMOR Y AMISTAD IN MAZATLÁN

By Maureen Dietrich

Romance is alive in Mazatlán, and no more so than on Valentine´s Day February 14th, or as it is called in Mexico, “Day of Love and Friendship.” To help you and your loved one celebrate, here are ten romantic things to do to make this day one to remember for years to come: 1. plan a sunset wedding in the charming small chapel on a hill overlooking the Sierra Madres at Hacienda Los Moras 2. hire a wandering minstrel group to serenade your sweetheart with the classic Mexican love song “Solamente una Vez” (Only one Time) 3. begin the evening with a sunset drink on the roof of the Hotel Freeman in Olas Altas, then walk the cobblestone streets of Centro Historico to the Plazuela Machado for a meal in the romantic ambiance of the Plazuela´s soft lighting 4. hire a pulmonia for a sunset tour of the lookouts at Icebox Hill and the Mirador. Bring along a chilled bottle of champagne and cozy blanket for two 5. ride the free shuttle bus to the Estrella del Mar Golf & Country Club for dinner on the terrace at the Paloma Restaurant, then walk

hand-in-hand the white sand beach which stretch-es as far as the eye can see 6. give your sweetheart a gold sombrero pendant as a reminder of the romance of Mexico and Mazatlán 7. have a beach vendor embroider an anklet which reads “ I Love…You” and tie it personally around her ankle 8. head to the Flower Market in El Centro and choose the perfect, long-stemmed red rose, or a bunch of brilliant white Calle lilies to present her, with a handwritten note that says “para siempre” (forever…) 9. surprise her by hiring a panga and boatman for a private, leisurely tour of Mazatlán´s harbour. Bring along a cooler filled with cold beer, peel-and-eat shrimp, salsa and crunchy tostados 10. spend the evening dancing under the soft lights at the Playa Mazatlán hotel´s Terraza restaurant, then climb the stairs to the upper terraza for an unsurpassed view of the ocean at night, and a long, loving embrace (Do you have a favorite romantic Mazatlán tradition? Let us know and we will include it in next year´s Romance in Mazatlán.)
