DECEMBER ARTS CALENDAR REFLECTS THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

The busy performing arts schedule for the Mazatlan Cultural Festival continues through Christmas, with many of the upcoming shows reflecting the flavor of the holiday season. All of the following attractions are slated to take place on their respective dates and times, and tickets are available at the box office to the right of the entrance to the Angela Peralta Theater. As usual, this schedule is subject to additions or changes, but CULTURA – the municipal committee for culture, tourism and the arts – says it is for the most part fixed. DECEMBER 3 — “Cuba en mi Corazon” (Cuba in my Heart) An orchestra plays the music of that tropical island 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 5 — Christmas Concert by Mazatlan Youth Symphony 6:00 & 8:30 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 6 — Mainly Mozart, a chamber trio consisting of violin, piano and clarinet from the San Diego classical concert

series makes a guest appearance 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 8 — Experimental Dance performance by the School of Contemporary Dance at Mazatlan Arts Center 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 9 — Jazz by the Mark Aanderud Sextet 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 10th & 11th - Open Studio Tour of artists’ studios to be held in Mazatlan’s Centro Historico from 5 pm to 9 pm (Sat. Dec. 10th) and 1-5 pm (Sun. Dec. 11th). 11 — Concert by the National Polytechnical Institute Orchestra from Mexico City 6:00 & 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 16 — “The Nutcracker,” an entirely new production of the timeless classical ballet 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 17 — “The Nutcracker,” in a repeat performance 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 20 — Christmas Gala with the Angela Peralta Chorale 8:00 p.m., Angela Peralta Theater 21 — Christmas Gala with the Angela Peralta Chorale 8:00 p.m. jackie@pacificpearl.com
