October’s looking like
a lively month for events on the arts scene. For one thing, the Sinaloa
Arts Festival always brings both national and international performers
to the stage of the Angela Peralta Theater as part of their tour of the
state’s major cities. Even before the festival begins its Oct. 14-24 run
locally, however, a retrospective exhibition of works by Sinaloa’s most
famous artist, Antonio Lopez Saenz, is scheduled to open. This show packs
a double whammy, since jewelry by Justina de Cima with designs inspired
by petroglyphs found in Southern Sinaloa will share exhibit space with
the Lopez Saenz art. Inauguration of this event takes place at 8:00 pm
October 8 at the Mazatlán Archaeological Museum, on Calle Sixto Osuna
half a block behind Olas Altas. Most of the month’s performing arts events
take place in and around the Angela Peralta Theater during the Sinaloa
Festival. All performances begin at 8:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Where
tickets are required, prices were yet to be announced at press time. They
can be obtained at the box office, to the right of the theater entrance.
You may also want to ask about a season ticket arrangement; details were
being worked out when the Pacific Pearl went to press. Here are the dates
and events: October 14: “Farinelli Evirato,” an Italian production featuring
the operatic arias favored by Evirato, the last of the famous castrati
of the 19th century October 15:
