FLAMENCO AND AN OPERA ON JUNE ARTS SCHEDULE
By Jackie Peterson

With the school year coming to a close, various schools and academies of the performing arts also end their year of study with recitals. So this month’s calendar of events at the Angela Peralta Theater shows lots of those. But there are a few non-school highlights as well on the June schedule. The opera “Gianni Schichi” (that’s pronounced skee-kee) will be performed here June 14 with the Sinaloa Orchestra of the Arts, conducted by Gordon Campbell, in the pit. Soloists and ticket prices had yet to be announced at press time. Although a school recital, the production “Sur” which is being presented by Miura Expre-sion Flamenca is sure to attract broad attention. Lucero Martinez, who runs the school, always does an imaginative job of staging, and she brings in guitarists and singers from Mexico City to lend an authentic gypsy touch to the dancing. Ticket prices for “Sur” already have been announced. They’re selling at 100, 80 and 50 pesos, and can be purchased from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. weekdays at the school. Miura is located to the left behind the Balboa Clinic on Camaron Sabalo in the Golden Zone. The leftover tickets will go to the Angela Peralta box office on June 5. Here’s what was listed when the Pacific Pearl deadline rolled around. Keep an eye out, however, for other performances to be penciled in at the last minute. All events are for the Angela Peralta Theater, Calle Consti-tucion near the corner of Carnaval, in Old Mazatlan.
