Well, pat us on the
back and shout “felicidades!” We’re celebrating in a big way. As of this
month, we at the Pacific Pearl are proud and excited to place ten — count
‘em 10 — candles on our birthday cake. It was back in 1992 that Mike and
Maricha Veselik sat brainstorming at their kitchen table one night and
hatched the idea of an English language paper here in Mazatlan. With the
help of us, the people on their staff, they’ve been faithfully reporting
the local news and activities of Mazatlan each month for all these years.
Their audience — our audience — is the English-speaking visitor to Mazatlan
as well as the majority of foreign residents who regularly consult the
Pacific Pearl for word of what’s going on around town. Their supporters
— our supporters — are the many businesses who place ads with the Pacific
Pearl so that we can bring you the information you

need totally free
of charge. Well, there is a small charge for our hundreds of subscribers
up north of the border. These frequent visitors or part-time residents reimburse
us for the expense of delivering the Pearl to them by mail or by Internet.
Because of production problems and other technicalities, we’ve changed our
look over the years and have evolved from our original tabloid format into
the streamlined magazine style you see today. Readers seem to like our newest
incarnation. They tell us it’s handier than ever to stick a copy of the
Pearl into a purse or pocket and carry it around with them. We are grateful
for all the help we have received through the years and hope you, our readers,
will continue to rely on us as your most dependable source of information
about what’s what in Mazatlan. —Thank you,— The publishers and staff of
the Pacific Pearl |
