ALL REVVED UP FOR MOTORCYCLE WEEK
By Jackie Peterson

Any means of transport with more than two wheels was definitely out of fashion near the end of April, when the Sixth Annual International Motorcycle Week brought hundreds of riders and their motorized bikes into town. Not a group to sit around in meetings, the motorcycle enthusiasts participated in competitions of driving skills and feats of derring-do, paraded the length of the malecon in impressive roaring numbers, showed off a wide array of their lovingly-tended bikes, and put on a exhibition of awe-inspiring acrobatic stunts in the local

bullring. Led by the Acrobatic Squadron of Mexico City, the participants paid homage to the late, great Mazatlecan actor-singer Pedro Infante. Forty-four years after Infante's death, he is still remembered for a film called "A Toda Maquina" in which he played the role of a motorcycle stuntman in the squadron. In 1951 Infante was named the honorary commandant of the squadron and is universally remembered by Mexican motorcycle enthusiasts to this day. The bikers visited Infante's home on Calle Constitucion where they laid a wreath in his memory.
