Mazatlan goes through a number of transitions during it's seasons. The
most profound is Christmas (New Year's), Spring Break and Easter. Granted,
the college kids got a little out of hand during Spring Break this year,
but they were ok, just having a good time. During the Mexican holiday,
from the Thursday before Good Friday to the following Monday after Easter,
Mazatlan is inundated with Mexican vacationers (approx. 250,000 people
this year). Mazatlan's administration kept everything well in hand this
year and what a job. We had plenty of patrolmen, security and an abundance
of hospitality. Considering the amount of activity and people, the town
was kept clean.

In the past several
years, Mazatlan has been trashed during the numerous holidays, but thanks
to maintenance, garbage trucks, hundreds of new trash cans all the way to
Cerritos, pickup crews and for the first time I have seen - street sweepers
- our town looked good. It still does and we have to thank this presentation
of a job well done by the local administration and Mayor Alejandro Higuera
Osuna. Even the curbs were freshly painted!! Even though it has been a tough
year for the local Mazatlecos - they have done a great job showing off Mazatlan
at it's best. I love this town, it's gracious people and I now have a much
healthier respect for it's local government. |
