From the Publisher's Desk
Happy Birthday Pacific Pearl!
For 13 years now, the Pacific Pearl has been consistent, strong and committed to providing right information for tourists and residents alike in Mazatlaán and abroad. It is an independent, non-political paper that has not received any federal, state or local government funds for its costs. It is a people’s paper, time and time again demonstrated to be the preferred source of information in English. We at the Pearl are proud to have reached another year marker and are dedicated to continuing excellence and delivery. We could not have done it alone, however, and wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made the past 13 years possible.

Highlights

The Pacific Pearl was started in 1992 by myself and Maricha as a 12 page paper with a distribution of 5,000. Today it is between 24 and 32 pages long with a monthly distribution of 16,000.

Since 1992 the Pacific Pearl has not missed a single month of publication and this is due to its diversified staff which has come up with excellent ideas to keep the paper rolling. Most importantly, a huge thank you goes out to the businesses that have supported us by advertising all these years. They are the ones who believed in the Pacific Pearl and have kept it going through thick and thin, even during the recession in 1996.

After a year and a half, our internet survey shows that 94.3% of respondents have picked us as the number one English speaking magazine and source of information in Mazatlán.

Also since the paper was found we have printed 2,488,000 copies of the monthly editions. Since 2002, we have printed 30,000 copies of the Official Guide & Directory to Mazatáan, Mexico. Of our restaurant guide which we began in 1993 we have printed 1,170,000 copies and since December 1997 when our website was formed, it has received approximately 40 million hits! Our recently formed online news site The Pacific Wave Weekly, published every Friday, has gotten a great response so far. We also receive and respond to e-mails daily and have fielded thousands of e-mails since we began.

We are a devoted company and we are going to continue to give the correct and best information we can to serve the needs of the tourists and residents here in Mazatlan. We will continue to support charities that are viable to Mazatlán.

I wish to thank all of you including my staff, our advertisers and the people that support our paper. Continue to give us questions and suggestions.
